Sean Andrew - Diamond Racing
Sean Andrew has been an employee at Diamond Pistons since October of 2003 and is currently the acting Engineering Supervisor. Sean’s path to Diamond has been a diverse journey allowing him to work in different applications related to the automotive field. Sean began his career in automotive coatings in 1992 working for Sherwin Williams (Automotive) as custom tint matcher and branch manager. After finishing an associate in computer aided engineering he left to take a position with Koltanbar Engineering which at the time was a Tier 1 supplier for General Motors. There he started as detailer working on weld data and process drawings for the GMT 800 project, and within a year was promoted to process engineer for the GMT360. Looking to grow in his career Sean took a position with Efficient Engineering, there he learned to use powerful tools of the trade such as 3d modelers of the likes of Unigraphics , Catia and simulation software Deneb. In 1997 he took a position with General Motors at the Warren Michigan Technical center working with the FEA analysis division. There he served as a Finite Element Analysis model builder for Safety Crash and CFD groups. During his stay at GM he was awarded a Lean Engineering award for developing a new and efficient modeling process that cut building a fully assembled FEA vehicle by 50% and improved virtual correlation with “real time” side, front, rear impact tests. Since his arrival at Diamond Sean has enjoyed many achievements, some of them including developing a piston engineering process tool that streamlines design, but is also flexible enough to use on any application (Ford modular to Hemi) and refined modeling techniques that have drastically cut the time needed to design a custom piston. Throughout his career Sean has been a believer of lifelong learning and has continued to obtain his educational goals from attending Oakland University’s BSME program to currently attending California National University for Advanced Studies to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Sean’s other educational/career achievements include flight training and holder of a multi-engine instrument commercial license and served as a short distance (night) cargo pilot out of Oakland Pontiac Michigan Airport from 1998 to 2002. Due to Sean’s dedication to Diamond’s success he does not practice his commercial pilot’s privilege at this time. Sean’s other interests outside of automotive include, musician, fitness, playing Ice Hockey and watching his two favorites teams (Islanders and Red Wings), and of course spending time with his wife Ann and three children Nicole, Michael, and Madison.
