John Maddox - Roush Yates Engines

Maddox is the Ford modular engine expert at Roush Yates Engines. He has been in charge of the four-valve racing program since September 1, 2002.

When John Maddox was hired by the Mooresville, NC, auto racing organization, Yates Racing Engines as it was then he had a resume perfect for the new position. Since 1988, he had devoted his life to finding success in car racing, from the short track ovals to serving Jim Head’s Top Fuel drag racing team as well as, among others, Gary Scelzi with the legendary Alan Johnson (now of Al Anabi fame), winning two successive NHRA Top Fuel championships in 1997 and ‘98.

As Roush Yates Engines’ technical manager of the sports car engine program, John’s modular Ford four-valve engines have distinguished themselves with 36 race wins spread across 7 different series in 6 six different championships in the past 24 months.

Married to Elizabeth from Katy, Texas, and with a twenty-three year old son, John Maddox, keeps a busy schedule. When not at the track he’s in the workshop developing and testing the four-valve modular race engines. As Doug Yates has said, “Engine development and testing is rarely carried to greater extremes than at Roush Yates Engines.”
